SUSTAINABLE GENERATION® Consulting
SG provides comprehensive facilities planning, site design, and operational support to propel your composting projects forward with confidence. Our experienced team can help you understand complex permitting processes, expertly prepare demonstrations for regulatory approval, and ensure your facility designs align perfectly with operational goals.
Whether you are constructing a new composting site or modifying an existing one, we are here to support you through every phase of the process. From design and installation to training and ongoing technical support, our goal is simple: to help you build, launch, and maintain high-performing composting facilities. Our technology aims to ensure consistent quality, environmental compliance, and the production of market-ready compost products.
Facility Planning and Design
Before detailed architectural and engineering work begins, our comprehensive pre-design services establish a strong foundation for project success. We work closely with clients to define clear facility requirements, such as capacity targets, throughput rates, site layout needs, regulatory considerations, and feedstock characteristics. This early-phase planning ensures all technical specifications are aligned with the operational goals of the composting facility. By proactively identifying potential challenges and opportunities, we help streamline the design and permitting process, reduce costly revisions later, and ensure the final system is both buildable and optimized for long-term performance.
System Design
People And Planning That Propel Projects Forward
Effective compost system design starts with a deep understanding of each site’s unique requirements. At SG, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Our design approach is guided by proven best management practices (BMPs) and shaped by the realities of your feedstocks, climate, throughput targets, regulatory obligations, and community expectations. From the outset, we integrate odor and emission control, stormwater management, and operational efficiency into every design. Whether upgrading an existing facility or building a new one, our team—made up of former operators and composting experts—partners with you to develop a right-sized solution that reduces permitting complexity, minimizes environmental impacts, and delivers the lowest total cost of ownership. The result is a composting system that’s not only compliant but resilient, scalable, and built to perform.
-
Permitting
Assistance with the permit process, including assisting with necessary documentation for solid waste permits, air quality permits, stormwater permits, and any other regulatory approvals required. We speak the language of regulators.
-
Demonstration / Proof of Concept
If regulators or stakeholders require a demonstration, we help set up and run pilot composting demonstrations (often using our SG MOBILE® System) to prove the concept and gather data for approval.
-
Pre-Design
Before engineers begin the design process, we outline the facility requirements (number and size of composting bunkers/heaps, equipment needs, material flow, etc.) to ensure the design aligns with your operational goals and technology. This saves time and money in the design phase.
-
UPGRADING Existing Facilities
If you have an existing compost yard or another facility you want to upgrade, we provide guidance on converting it to SG ADVANCED COMPOSTING™ Technology. We’ll create a plan to integrate new technology and upgrade your entire process.
Operator Training Support
Ongoing Maintenance and Troubleshooting Assistance
Even after your facility is up and running, SG's technicians continue to be a valuable resource. They offer ongoing support services for the entire life of your composting system, including an optional extended support contract that provides routine maintenance guidance and prompt troubleshooting whenever issues arise. Whether fine-tuning equipment, adjusting to new feedstock, or component repairs, these experts ensure your operation stays on track with minimal downtime. Having such skilled technicians on call means problems are resolved quickly and correctly, keeping your compost piles compliant without costly interruptions. In short, they help you maximize uptime and maintain the peak performance of your composting operation over the long haul.
