Compost can be produced from animal waste. This is especially important in farm areas that are near water because animal waste is a major cause of the nutrient-loading contamination of our waterways.
To optimize the value of municipal solid waste (MSW) there has been an increase in composting of the organic segments.
The organic waste that remains after the anaerobic digestion (AD) of organic feedstocks is called digestate. It is one of the two main products produced from AD. Biogas is the other. Digestate can be composted.
